  • An ultrasound scan, sometimes called a sonogram, is a procedure that uses high frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body

    You cant hear the sound waves but when they bounce of different parts of the body, they create “echos” that are picked up by the probe and turned in to moving images.

    This image is displayed on the monitor whilst the scan is being carried out.

    Ultrasound uses no radiation

    There is no evidence ultrasound is harmful if used according to guidelines. Ultrasound has been used in pregnancy for decades.
